The North Star® Boxwood is that perfect plant – it makes beautiful round balls and neat hedges without needing clipping. It is ideal for low hedges or specimen plants, and because of its naturally dense and compact form, it is solid and neat enough to look perfect naturally. Use it for hedges and borders around beds, as highlights and specimens in beds, alone or in groups, or plant it in boxes and pots to create that classic boxwood ball. Not only does it need no trimming, it stays a rich green all winter long, even in zone 5, where most other varieties turn brown, and can even die. So for easy formality, this is the boxwood you need, wherever you live.

  • Round spherical shape – naturally
  • So compact it doesn’t need trimming
  • Hardy even in zone 5
  • Easily grown in sun or shade
  • Resistant to common pests

Grow the North Star® Boxwood in almost any light levels, from full sun to light, full shade. Avoid planting underneath heavy evergreens. It grows well in any well-drained soil, with the richest color and sturdiest growth on plants in soil with added organic material. Fertilize in spring with an evergreen fertilizer, and there is nothing else you need to do – it is even resistant to the common boxwood pests. Of course, if you insist, you can clip it as much as you want, and have geometrically perfect spheres and crisp, square hedges, but really, you don’t need to.
